In 2025 we were pleased to be able to re-open our Meditation and Multifaith Space (previously known as the Sanctuary) located on the ground floor of the New College Library.
Prior to the re-opening, the space was closed for a few months for refurbishment works completed by the University of Edinburgh Estates Department. These works included rectifying the wood paneling, installing new lighting and the design of a new bespoke cupboard built into the alcove as well as other additional refurbishments.
Alongside these renovation works, additional upgrades were made to ensure that the space is a welcoming and inclusive area for all of our students and staff to use.

Sanctuary Reopening – 5 June 2025
On 5 June 2025 we held a formal event in the Rainy Hall to celebrate the re-opening of the Meditation and Multifaith Space.
Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Dr Alysa Ghose welcomed students and staff into Rainy Hall to hear about the renovation works and what the space offers. The event provided the platform for friendly discussions with tasty snacks and even offered a tour of the space for guests to see the renovations for themselves!
