A set of early faded photographs, stored in a box labelled ‘Miscellaneous’ in New College’s Special Collection, depict the social side of student life at turn of the twentieth century. The below image provides an insight into the student celebrations that marked the Coronation of King George V in 1911. Members of the ‘U. F. Society’ (likely the United Free Society) gathered on the grass at Roslin Glen to enjoy ‘THE “Coronation” Picnic’.
Prior to the First World War, New College hosted its own Hockey Club.
