The David Welsh Reading Room provides an environment for quiet study and contains 30 study seats, microfilm and microfiche readers.
The room is named after David Welsh, Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Edinburgh, 1831-1843, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland at the Disruption, and first Professor of Church History and Librarian at New College, 1844-45. He personally collected much of the funding for the New College building, while his large personal collection of books formed the basis of the New College Library.
