Martin Hall is our second biggest teaching room and is located on the first floor of the building. The classroom style room has tablet chairs and is used for general teaching, being able to house up to 84 people at a time.

Formerly the Library Hall of New College, it was transformed into a hall for special lectures and gatherings when the present New College Library was opened in 1936. It was named in honour of the distinguished practical theologian and ecumenical leader, Alexander Martin, Professor of Apologetics and Pastoral Theology, 1897-1927, and Principal of New College, 1918-1935, who had played a prominent role in the Presbyterian reunion in Scotland in 1929.

The hall has been home to a variety of different talks, including Opening Lectures, Inaugural Lectures, Open Days and much more. Since 2023 the hall has also been the home to New College Festival, our annual book festival. Check out our collection of event recordings from the Martin Hall on our YouTube channel!

In December 2023 the New College Coat of Arms Document was installed onto the wall opposite the entrance. This is a version of the document that was presented to the School by the Lord Lyon in 2021 as part of the 175th Anniversary celebrations.
