Martin Hall is now a classroom style room with tablet chairs used for general teaching.
Formerly the Library Hall of New College, it was transformed into a hall for special lectures and gatherings when the present New College Library was opened in 1936. It was named in honour of the distinguished practical theologian and ecumenical leader, Alexander Martin, Professor of Apologetics and Pastoral Theology, 1897-1927, and Principal of New College, 1918-1935, who had played a prominent role in the Presbyterian reunion in Scotland in 1929.
The hall has been home to a variety of different talks, including opening lectures from the beginning of the academic year. Check out our collection of event recordings from the Martin Hall on our YouTube channel!

In December 2023 the New College Coat of Arms Document was installed onto the wall opposite this entrance. This is a version of the document that was presented to the School in 2021 as part of the 175th Anniversary celebrations.
