General Assembly Hall

The General Assembly Hall in New College is owned by the Church of Scotland and is used by the School of Divinity for special occasions and events. The hall has featured a wide variety of events at the school including Opening Lectures, Inaugural Lectures, New College Festival events up until 2022 and much more.

The hall was used during the 1910 Edinburgh World Missionary Conference. It was also home to the debating chamber of the Scottish Parliament from its establishment in 1999, until the new Scottish Parliament Building at Holyrood was completed in 2004.

The hall is also home to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe which sees the space transformed into a live performing arts venue for their yearly programme of events including comedy, dance, music and so much more.
